This is an open source journal which began publishing in 2008 and accepts original articles, papers presented at scholarly conferences, essays, poetry, creative writing, and Letters to the Editor. Work which examines the interface of health care and the humanities from a global perspective is welcome. All submissions will be peer reviewed as per standard practice, i.e. anonymously and with pre-established criteria for fit with the journal.
It is also a media-rich journal. Photographs and original artwork will be considered for publication after peer review by a jury of artists. All artwork including alternative media, paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, photographs, paper collage, assemblage, installation, digital manipulation, ceramics, and fiber will be considered and should be submitted in a digital format.
As each of us is pressed to think innovatively about keeping the humanity in health care, this journal offers examples of how words and images can combine to deliver a powerful message. Using graphic design or theater to address pressing problems in clinical care, a story that hints at why and how patients choose their own therapy, photographs that take us into different worlds, and poetry that speaks of loss, crisis, healing, and hope all offer a message that encourages and uplifts us.
